GENIUS Science Olympiad
Propose an innovative product or solution to an environmental problems using science and engineering
What is the GENIUS Science about?
GENIUS Science provides understanding and solutions to environmental problems using scientific knowledge. You will present a solution using scientific methods for a problem from one of the categories below:
Environmental quality: providing solutions to the problems of environmental pollution-such as air, water, soil, and noise pollution.
Ecology & biodiversity: the study of plant and animal populations, plant and animal communities, the network of relations among organisms.
Resource and energy: the study of energy sources, such as mineral, water, wood, coal, oil, gas, nuclear, wind, sun, and soil sources, including efforts to increase their efficiency in producing energy and to reduce the impact of their use on the environment.
Human ecology: the relationship between humans and their natural, social, and built environments, the effects of environmental changes on human behavior, and the effects of human behavior on the environment.
Innovation: creating new or different tangible products or processes as a result of a novel idea or a method to make our lives better, healthier, and environmentally friendly.

What work is involved?
You will work for several months (typically between 3 and 6 months) to
ideate a scientific solution to a pain point,
build a prototype of this solution,
conduct experiments to validate that the solution works,
document your work in a research paper ("description paper"), aided with data, graphics, photos, drawings etc.
if you reach the finals, you will also pitch your solution in a poster format to a panel of judges.
Am I eligible?
Genius Science Olympiad is open to all students in years 9 through 12. Both US and international students can apply. If you have not turned 17 yet, you will need an adult supervisor to attend the competition with you. You can work on Genius Science Olympiad by yourself, or with up to one teammate.
When can I apply?
You should submit your work by 11:59pm on Match 1 2024. Finalists will be announced around late March or early April. The finals will take place in June.
How will

help
We will guide you every step of the way:
Ideation: you will brainstorm and discuss your ideas with your Ariton mentor. They will help you select a solution that is most impactful and feasible given time and resources limitations.
Mentorship: an experienced Ariton consultant with years of business entrepreneurship and academic research experience will be working with you on a weekly basis. Our mentors previously started companies and published science papers, as well as led teams to successfully compete in the Genius Olympiad.
Expert training: Ariton mentors have broad technical experience with coding, data analysis, as well as academic paper writing. Where necessary, we will also help you find experts in the specific niche relevant to your invention for an expert interview.
Coaching sessions: from idea brainstorming to structuring your experiments, to training for the poster presentation, your Ariton mentor will be with you every step of the way.
Project management: there is a lot of work involved in completing the Genius Science Olympiad, and it will be your Ariton mentor's priority to ensure you are on track.
